Where To Cycled

CYCLING adventure in one of Bali's only remaining areas of wilderness, high up in the pristine rainforests. Vast unhabited forests cover Batukaru and it boasts stunning jungle uplands with sublime landscapes. Starting high in the mountains, you can see Balinese culture and customs while you pass through the timeless countryside.

Batur Trail
A bike tour begins with a drive up to the Kintamani area at 1,700 meters above sea level. After brunch you ride back down a less-trafficked road, an easy-going two and a half hour trip with one hill that you can ride up on your bike. The downhill trail from Mount Batur will lead you through dense rainforests, groves of giant bamboo, past picture-postcard terraces and sleepy mountain villages along little-used roads and tracks.

Frequent stops along the way will give you the chance to visit temples, plantations and villages that offer an insight into a Bali. To set the mood you start the tour in Kintamani, Lake Batur and Bali's highest volcanic craters. Once you start cycling, you meander through villages and breathtaking hillside farming areas at the village of Ubud. The great thing about the Batur Trail is that it's virtually all downhill, all 27 km of it.

Batukaru Trail
Offering spectacular views where rice terraces stretch as far as the eye can see. For those wishing to travel through slightly more remote and adventurous terrain, through this rich heartland of Bali on small roads and jungle tracks, again learning about the culture, plant life and farming methods as you go. The backdrop is the mountain as you coast through the farming villages with some of the best view of rice paddy terraces in Bali.

Visiting these ancient villages and farming centers provides a unique insight into the ways of old Bali, where knowledge is passed from generation to generation and still in use today. Following the combination of road and off-road riding, the tour finishes perfectly until you reach at a local hot spring, Yeh Panas.

Campuhan Ridge Trail
Starting high in the mountains at the village of Mayungan, this 25 kilometer ride winds its way down along valleys, passing temples and shrines and criss-crossing green rice fields and landscape unchanged for a thousand years. Your guide will explain local Balinese culture and customs while you pass through the timeless countryside, arriving finally at the famous Monkey Forest Temple at Sangeh.

Bali Barat National Park
